This course will provide an overview of changes in the 2022 FGI Guidelines, the design standards employed by medical planners, designers, and owners of hospitals, outpatient facilities, and residential care settings and adopted by reference in the Florida Building Code.

The presenter will discuss key factors that influenced changes across the 2022 Guidelines documents. Topics include considerations for inclusive environments that support all populations; new clinical spaces that have the potential to reduce overcrowding in emergency departments; a new chapter for extended stay centers in the Outpatient document for patients receiving care in outpatient surgery or freestanding emergency departments; and a new unit for intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs for patients with behavioral and mental health diagnoses who do not require inpatient care.
