04: Infection Control Principals for Health Care Construction

Construction in healthcare facilities is a complex management issue during construction inside sensitive patient care environments required for current patient care technology. While common sense is the issue in a patient care facility, this sense is not common to the untrained construction worker. Protection during demolition, utility outages and build-back requires objective assurances (i.e. airflow direction from clean to dirty, etc.). Such understanding for air and water management should be standard operating procedures. This lecture will discuss a listing of these principles and verifiable environmental parameters which can be checked on a daily basis. Such infection control validation is necessary to assure patient safety during healthcare construction.
