08: Designing Healthcare Spaces That Perform Acoustically
Acoustic performance plays a critical role in patient outcomes, staff effectiveness, and overall healthcare experience. The Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) establishes minimum acoustic requirements for healthcare environments, but meeting these criteria alone does not guarantee a successful acoustic environment. This session will explore how to translate FGI acoustic requirements into practical acoustic design strategies that support patient health and privacy. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of key requirements related to sound isolation, background noise, and room acoustics across a range of healthcare spaces. The presentation will highlight common pitfalls in both design and construction. The session will also provide actionable strategies to not only meet but exceed FGI guidelines.
